We are Skylar and Terrance Smith, which is where the name of our farm comes from. Skylar grew up on a small cattle ranch in Freedom, Oklahoma. As a child he showed sheep and hogs. He later went on to serve in the United States Air Force. Skylar then spent time driving a truck cross country, before finding his niche in the Oilfield Wireline industry. This is where he is employed full time. I am originally from Liberal, Kansas. I grew up in town and was not involved with farm animals until we started our Boer goat endeavor. I graduated from Pittsburg State University, and began my career in the insurance industry. I now work for a company that transports retail fuel.
We relocated to McAlester, Oklahoma in May 2007. We have two boys, age 12 and 6. Colton (12) and Jacob (6) are the reason we purchased our first set of Boer goats. Colton always said he thought it would be fun to show goats. We thought this would be a great opportunity for us to expose our boys to what it means to be responsible and disciplined. After we purchased our first set of Full Blood South African does in June 2008, both boys jumped right in, and wanted to learn about the right way to take care of the goats. I really never thought I’d enjoy them as much as I do. However, I’ll be the first to admit that I spend a lot of time talking to “my girls” after a long day at the office. It is our goal to someday have enough Boer goats for Sale that we can concentrate more of our efforts on the business.
We have really enjoyed the journey so far, and look forward to the rest of the ride! We hope to meet as many of you as possible along the way.
